Stainless steel beams are named after their distinctive 'I' shape profile. The I-beam is the universal and most recognized model, with other beam types named in comparison.
- I Beam - The most common beam in our inventory. The I-beam's center web can only be rolled as much as a mill's equipment can handle (typically 5/8″). I-beams are lighter in weight, making them suitable for frequent use. They are manufactured as a solid piece of metal throughout, rolled and formed from a single part.
- H Beam - H-beams are stronger than I-beams but require more complex manufacturing. Instead of being rolled as one piece, H-beams consist of three individually created pieces welded together. This construction allows each portion to be much stronger, as the milling equipment reinforces the material three times. Overall, H-beams are heavier than I-beams and can withstand greater force and pressure.
