Material Description
17-4PH (Type 630) is a chromium-copper precipitation hardening stainless steel designed for applications requiring high strength and moderate corrosion resistance. This material maintains high strength up to approximately 600°F (316°C).
General Properties
Alloy 17-4 PH is a precipitation hardening martensitic stainless steel with copper and niobium additions. This grade combines high strength, hardness (up to 572°F / 300°C), and excellent corrosion resistance. Mechanical properties can be optimized through heat treatment, achieving very high yield strength up to 1100-1300 MPa (160-190 ksi).

Corrosion Resistance
Grade 630 stainless steel offers superior corrosion resistance compared to standard hardenable stainless steels, performing comparably to Alloy 304 in most media. For optimal resistance to stress corrosion cracking, aging temperatures above 1022°F (550°C) are recommended, with 1094°F (590°C) being ideal for H2S media applications.
