Product Introduction
Why Choose Hot-Rolled 316H?
- Optimized for high-temp service: Superior creep strength vs. 316/316L
- Robust corrosion resistance: Molybdenum-enhanced protection against chlorides and acids
- Hot-rolled integrity: Dense grain structure with minimal internal stress
- Code-compliant: Fully meets ASTM A240, ASME SA-240, and PED requirements
- Globally trusted: Used in nuclear plants, refineries, and combined-cycle power facilities

- Organic and mineral acids (acetic, formic, phosphoric)
- Sulfidic corrosion in sour oil & gas service
- Oxidizing atmospheres in incinerators and furnaces
Target Applications
| Industry | Key Components |
|---|---|
| Fossil Fuel Power | Superheater headers, steam drums, boiler baffles, flue gas ducts |
| Nuclear Energy | Sodium-cooled fast reactor internals, heat exchanger plates |
| Petrochemical | Crude distillation units, hydroprocessing reactors, sulfur recovery units |
| Industrial Heating | Furnace rollers, radiant tubes, retort components |
| Waste-to-Energy | Combustion chambers, heat recovery surfaces |
Fabrication & Processing Guidelines
- Hot Rolling Advantage: Produces plates with refined grain flow, ideal for thick-section welding and high-load applications.
- Welding: Use low heat input; filler metals such as ER316H or ER316L (for thin sections). Avoid sensitization by minimizing time in 425–860°C range.
- Forming: Excellent ductility allows cold bending; anneal after severe deformation (>20% strain).
- Machining: Moderate difficulty—use rigid setups, sharp carbide tools, and ample coolant.
- Heat Treatment: Solution anneal at 1040–1150°C (1900–2100°F), followed by water or rapid air quench.

Comparison: Hot-Rolled 316H vs. Alternatives
| Material | Best For | Limitation in High-Temp Service |
|---|---|---|
| 316H (HR) | Creep strength >550°C | Requires controlled welding |
| 316L (HR) | Corrosion + welding | Low carbon = poor creep resistance |
| 304H (HR) | General high-temp use | No Mo = vulnerable to pitting |
| 321H | Stabilized welding service | Lower Mo; titanium inclusions possible |
