Product Description
ASTM A564 Type 630 H1150 Stainless Steel Bar Rod
17-4PH Stainless Steel Overview
17-4 Precipitation Hardening (Type 630) is a chromium-copper precipitation hardening stainless steel designed for applications requiring high strength and moderate corrosion resistance. This alloy maintains high strength up to approximately 600°F (316°C).
Key Characteristics
Alloy 17-4 PH is a precipitation hardening martensitic stainless steel with copper and niobium additions. It combines high strength, hardness (up to 572°F / 300°C), and excellent corrosion resistance. Mechanical properties can be optimized through heat treatment, achieving very high yield strength up to 1100-1300 MPa (160-190 ksi).

Heat Treatment
Grade 630 stainless steels are solution treated at 1040°C for 0.5 hours followed by air cooling. Age hardening at low temperatures achieves required mechanical properties with minimal distortion.
Machining & Welding
This alloy can be machined in solution-treated condition with rates similar to grade 304 stainless steel. It can be welded using all conventional methods without pre-heating requirements.
Typical Applications
- Engine components
- High strength boat propeller shafts
- Plastic molding dies
- Valves and gears
