409L welded pipe is a chromium, titanium-stabilized ferritic stainless steel specifically designed for automotive exhaust systems. This grade contains 11% chromium, which provides the minimum required amount for forming the passive surface film that gives stainless steels their corrosion resistance.
Grade 409L combines excellent elevated temperature corrosion resistance with medium strength, good formability, and competitive cost-effectiveness. It serves as a superior alternative to carbon steel in moderately challenging environments where enhanced corrosion resistance and high-temperature oxidation protection are essential.
