Grade Overview
Grades 321 and 347 are austenitic 18/8 steels (similar to Grade 304) stabilized by Titanium (321) or Niobium (347) additions. These grades resist intergranular corrosion after heating within 425-850°C. Grade 321 is ideal for applications up to 900°C, offering high strength, scaling resistance, phase stability, and subsequent aqueous corrosion resistance.
Grade 321H features higher carbon content for improved high-temperature strength. Note that 321 is not recommended as a welding consumable; grade 347 is preferred for welding applications.
Both grades offer excellent forming and welding characteristics, outstanding toughness even at cryogenic temperatures, and do not require post-weld annealing. Grade 321 does not polish well and is not recommended for decorative applications.
