2205 Duplex Stainless Steel Characteristics
Alloy 2205 (UNS S32305/S31803) is a duplex stainless steel composed of 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum and 5-6% nickel-nitrogen alloy. It offers high strength, excellent impact toughness, and superior overall and local stress corrosion resistance.
Key Advantages
Compared with 316L and 317L austenitic stainless steel, 2205 alloy provides superior pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion resistance. It features high corrosion resistance, lower thermal expansion coefficient, and higher thermal conductivity than austenitic grades.
The compressive strength of 2205 is twice that of austenitic stainless steel, allowing designers to reduce weight while maintaining performance, resulting in cost savings compared to 316L and 317L.

Product Features
2205 duplex stainless steel is particularly suitable for temperature ranges of -50°F to +600°F. For applications beyond this range, special considerations may be required, especially for welded structures.
The yield strength of 2205 is twice that of austenitic stainless steel, enabling weight reduction in product design while providing cost advantages over 316 and 317L alloys.
