Product Description
ASTM A240 AISI 444 Stainless Steel Sheet, Coil & Strip
SUS444 stainless steel sheet, also known as AISI 444 or EN 1.4521, is a dual-stabilized ferritic stainless steel containing 2% molybdenum. This grade offers excellent corrosion resistance comparable to austenitic grades 4401/4404, with higher strength values due to molybdenum alloying.
Product Overview
Grade Specifications
EN 1.4521 / AISI 444 is equivalent to ASTM 444 standard. Stabilized with both titanium and niobium, this grade achieves elongation to fracture values up to 30% (A80) and features improved surface properties.
Key Applications
- Heat exchangers, boilers, and water heaters
- Stainless steel water tanks
- Pipes for tap water and drinking-water environments
- Solar water heaters
- Food processing equipment
- Brewery and wine making equipment
- Automotive components

Material Characteristics
Corrosion Resistance
Grade 1.4521 offers molybdenum-alloyed ferritic steel with localized corrosion resistance close to grade 1.4404/AISI 316. Excellent resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking. Refer to NACE for specific corrosion recommendations.
Formability
Excellent cold-forming capabilities with particular suitability for deep drawing. Comparable deep drawability to deep drawing quality carbon steels. Lower work hardening rate than standard austenitic grades.
Welding
Better weldability than many ferritic steels due to low C and N contents with titanium and niobium stabilization. Grain growth in HAZ limits heat input. Austenitic fillers typically used. Refer to SSINA's "Welding of Stainless Steels" for best practices.
