253MA is a specialized stainless steel grade that combines excellent high-temperature service properties with ease of fabrication. This alloy resists oxidation at temperatures up to 1150°C and provides superior performance to Grade 310 in carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur-containing atmospheres.
Also known by the proprietary designation 2111HTR, 253MA contains relatively low nickel content, offering advantages in reducing sulfide atmospheres compared to high-nickel alloys and Grade 310. The inclusion of high silicon, nitrogen, and cerium contents provides excellent oxide stability, high elevated temperature strength, and superior resistance to sigma phase precipitation.
The austenitic structure ensures excellent toughness, even at cryogenic temperatures.
