Processing & Fabrication Guidance
- Machining: Best performed after annealing or high-temp tempering (HB ≤ 240). Use rigid setups and sharp carbide tools.
- Heat Treatment:
- Normalizing: 880–910°C, air cool
- Quenching: 880–910°C, oil quench
- Tempering: 600–660°C, rapid air cooling through 550–450°C to avoid temper brittleness
- Nitriding: Achieves case depth of 0.3–0.6 mm with surface hardness >600 HV—ideal for valve stems and wear parts.
- Forging: Recommended temperature range: 1150–850°C; avoid forging below 800°C.
