Heat Treatment Processes
Annealing Process
Slowly heat to 730°C and allow sufficient time for thorough heating, then cool slowly in the furnace. Resulting hardness: MAX 250 HB (Brinell hardness).
Hardening Process
Heat uniformly to 830-860°C (1526-1580°F) until completely heated through. Allow approximately 30 minutes per 25 mm of ruling section, then immediately quench in oil.
Tempering Process
Temper at 540°C, soaking well at the selected temperature for at least one hour per 25mm of total thickness.

Applications
65Mn steel, after heat treatment and cold drawing hardening, provides high strength with good toughness and plasticity. While hardenability is limited, it offers excellent fatigue limits comparable to alloy spring steels. Primarily used for smaller size springs including:
- Speed regulating springs
- Load springs
- Round and square spiral springs
- Pull wire for small mechanical springs
- General machinery applications
