Slowly heat to 730°C and allow sufficient time for thorough heating, then cool slowly in the furnace. Resulting hardness: maximum 250 HB.
Heat uniformly to 830-860°C (1526-1580°F) until completely heated through. Provide approximately 30 minutes per 25mm of ruling section, then immediately quench in oil.
Perform tempering at 540°C. Soak well at the selected temperature for at least one hour per 25mm of total thickness.

65Mn steel, after heat treatment and cold drawing hardening, offers high strength with good toughness and plasticity. It features excellent fatigue limits and is mainly used for smaller size springs including speed regulating springs, load springs, round and square spiral springs in general machinery, and pull wires for small mechanical springs.
