Material Description
Monel K500 round steel is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-copper alloy offering exceptional performance in harsh industrial environments.
Chemical Composition
Monel K500 contains nickel (63-70%) and copper (27-33%) as primary components, with aluminum (2.30-3.15%) and titanium (0.35-0.85%) for precipitation hardening. Additional elements include iron (≤2.0%), manganese (≤1.5%), silicon (≤0.5%), carbon (≤0.25%), and sulfur (≤0.01%).
Mechanical Properties
  • Annealed Condition: Tensile strength: 690-850 MPa, Yield strength: 275-550 MPa, Elongation: ≥20%
  • Precipitation-Hardened: Tensile strength: 1100-1300 MPa, Yield strength: 760-1000 MPa, Hardness: 27-38 HRC
Corrosion Resistance
Exceptional resistance to natural and chemical environments including pure water, mineral acids, salts, and alkalis. Virtually immune to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking. Performs well in high-velocity seawater and marine atmospheres.
Heat Resistance
Maintains strength and toughness up to 400°C (750°F), ensuring equipment integrity in high-temperature chemical processing applications.
Machinability
Reasonable machinability with proper tooling (carbide or high-speed steel) and appropriate cutting parameters for optimal results.
Applications
  • Chemical Processing: Pumps, valves, heat exchangers
  • Offshore Equipment: Propeller and pump shafts, seawater valves
  • Aerospace: Aircraft landing gear, helicopter rotor blades
Sizes and Standards
Available in diameters from 6mm to 350mm. Produced according to international standards including ASTM B865 (USA), DIN 17752, and DIN 17753 (Germany).
