Grade 304 Stainless Steel Overview

Grade 304 is the most commonly used austenitic stainless steel, offering excellent corrosion resistance, strength, toughness, fabrication characteristics, and weldability. The low carbon version (304L) provides full corrosion resistance for welded thicker sections, while 304H offers guaranteed minimum carbon content for high-temperature strength.

Finishing Options

No1 (hot rolled, annealed and pickled), 2D (cold rolled), 2B (cold rolled, skin passed), N4 (polished), BA (bright annealed). Flat products available with white polyethylene (PE) film protection, or blue/black PVC for deep drawing and heavy forming applications.

Corrosion Resistance

Grade 304 stainless steel provides excellent corrosion resistance in atmospheric conditions and most environments except marine conditions or heavy industrial pollution. It performs well in potable water (up to 200 ppm chloride limit) but is not recommended for seawater applications due to potential crevice corrosion.
