Material Characteristics

Grades 321 and 347 are austenitic 18/8 steels (based on Grade 304) stabilized by Titanium (321) or Niobium (347) additions. These grades resist intergranular corrosion after heating within the carbide precipitation range of 425-850°C. Grade 321 is ideal for applications up to 900°C, offering high strength, scaling resistance, phase stability, and subsequent aqueous corrosion resistance.

Grade 321H: Modified version with higher carbon content for improved high-temperature strength.
Welding Note: Titanium doesn't transfer well across high-temperature arcs, so grade 347 is recommended as welding consumable for 321 materials.
Forming & Welding: Excellent forming and welding characteristics, readily brake or roll-formed with outstanding welding properties. Post-weld annealing not required.
Toughness: Excellent toughness even at cryogenic temperatures.
Surface Finish: Does not polish well, not recommended for decorative applications.
