316/316L Stainless Steel Sheet is a premium grade where superior corrosion resistance is essential. This material is widely used in marine environments, highly acidic conditions, underwater equipment, surgical tools, and food/pharmaceutical applications. The molybdenum addition enhances corrosion resistance compared to the more economical 304 grade.
Available as Sheet, Plate, Coil, Strip, Wire, Pipe, Tube, Bar, Profile, Round, Flat, Square, and Hexagonal forms.

Types 316 and 316L offer improved chloride corrosion resistance compared to Type 304 due to molybdenum content. Suitable for marine atmospheres, paper, petroleum, food, and dairy industries. Resistant to sulfuric acid environments below 5% concentration up to 150°F (60°C). Excellent resistance to acetic, formic, phosphoric, and tartaric acids.
Annealing: Heat to 1900-2100°F (1038-1149°C), then rapidly quench.
Excellent ductility in annealed condition for roll forming, deep drawing, and bending. Work hardens slower than Type 304. Annealing restores ductility for subsequent forming operations.
Austenitic stainless steel weldable by common fusion and resistance techniques. Type 316L eliminates harmful carbide precipitation due to welding. AWS E/ER 316L and 16-8-2 commonly specified as weld filler materials.
