Galvanized steel coil: a thin steel sheet that is dipped into a molten zinc solution so that a zinc layer is attached to its surface. It is mainly produced by the continuous galvanizing process, in which rolled steel sheets are continuously dipped into a molten zinc bath to make galvanized steel sheets; an alloy galvanized steel coil. This steel sheet is also made by the hot dipping method, but it is heated to about 500°C immediately after coming out of the bath to form a zinc-iron alloy coating. Galvanized steel coils have good coating adhesion and weldability.
Application of galvanized steel coil
Galvanized steel coil products are mainly used in the construction, light industry, automobile, agriculture, animal husbandry and fishery and commercial industries. Among them, the construction industry is mainly used for the manufacture of industrial and civil building anti-corrosion roof panels, roof grilles, etc.; light industry is used for the manufacture of household appliances shells, civil chimneys, kitchen appliances, etc., the automotive industry is mainly used for the manufacture of corrosion-resistant parts of automobiles, etc.; agriculture, animal husbandry and fishery is mainly used for grain storage and transportation, meat, aquatic products refrigeration processing tools, etc.; commerce is mainly used for material storage and transportation, packaging tools, etc.
Why choose galvanized steel coil?
1. Cost-effective solution
Compared to GL or color coated steel coils, galvanized steel coils are the most cost-effective solution, but with similar features such as great corrosion resistance, good appearance, etc.
2. Wide range of applications
Galvanized steel coil can be easily processed into different applications. It is widely used in construction, home appliances, automotive containers, transportation, and other fields.
3. Easy to transport
Compared with GI steel sheets, the coil is easier to transport. In this way, it will save your transportation cost.
What are zinc-free, small square, large square and smooth square galvanized sheets?
1. Zinc-free galvanized sheet
By adding elements that promote angularity to the zinc solution, the zinc layer does not form angularity when it solidifies, and the grains are very fine, smooth and flat, so it is called angularity-free product. It has superior corrosion resistance and good coating performance.
2. Large span galvanized sheet
A spider web accelerating element is added to the zinc solution, so a beautiful spider web is formed when the coating is cured. In the early stage of use, the appearance performance is better, but the grain is coarse and there is fine unevenness.
3. Small square galvanized sheet
There is no strict definition for small span products. In general, small span products are referred to as small span products. The composition of small spangle products is the same as that of large spangle products. To overcome the poor coating performance of large spangle products, various methods are used to inhibit the growth of spangle during the cooling process, preferably forming a small diameter. spangle has very good coating performance because it does not have a mirror-smooth surface like large spangle, nor is it as smooth as products without spangle.
4. smooth spangle galvanized sheet
Smooth spangle is a galvanized product that is based on no spangle or small spangle and has its surface smoothed again to make it smoother and more suitable for the needs of modern industrial products.
Types of galvanized steel coils
According to the processing method, we classify galvanized steel into the following categories.
1. Hot-dip galvanized steel coils
As the name suggests, hot-dip galvanizing is the process of dipping a washed iron sheet into a molten zinc solution at about 500 degrees to form a zinc layer. This is the most commonly used method. It has some favorable characteristics.
The entire steel surface is evenly covered with zinc layer, even corners, cavities, etc. This gives full protection to the iron sheet.
The cost of hot-dip galvanizing is very low.
2. Electro-galvanized steel coil
Electro-galvanization is a coating of zinc on steel by electroplating with a brine anode and steel conductor. It can improve the corrosion resistance and heat resistance of steel. In addition, it can make the steel more beautiful.
Difference between hot dip galvanized and electro galvanized coils
1. Thickness of zinc layer
Generally speaking, the thickness of the electroplated zinc layer is 5~15μm, while the hot-dip galvanized layer is often over 35μm, or even up to 200μm.
2. Corrosion resistance
The corrosion resistance of hot-dip galvanized sheets is much better than that of electro-galvanized sheets. This is due to the thickness of the zinc layer and the adhesion between the base metal and the zinc layer.
3. Appearance
The electro-galvanized sheet has a smoother, brighter appearance. Whereas the surface of the hot-dip galvanized coil is rough and dull.
4. Applications
Hot-dip galvanized products are widely used in transportation, construction, communication, electric power, energy, automotive, petrochemical, and home appliance industries. While the electro-galvanized coil is more suitable for small parts, or indoor environments, etc.
Hot dip galvanized coil production process
- Cleaning of grease, dirt and paint from the steel coil surface. Steel coils need to be uncoiled and welded for continuous processing.
- Rinse off the cleaning solution.
- Place in an acidic solution to remove roll scale.
- Wash off the pickling solution.
- Immerse the steel in the molten zinc solution and hold it for a period of time for galvanizing.
- After cooling, the steel is rolled into coils and sold.
