Types of Stainless Steel Beams
Stainless steel beams are named after their most prominent aspect of the 'I' Shape. The I-beam is the universal and most identified model and because of that, the other beams are named comparatively to that bar.
- I Beam- The most common beam in our inventory. The I-beams center web can only be rolled as much as a mill's equipment can handle (5/8″). The I-Beam is lighter in weight which is why it is used so often. The I-Beam is also a solid piece of metal throughout. It is rolled and manufactured from one part.
- H Beam - The H-Beam is stronger than the I-beam, but it requires much more effort to produce in the process. Instead of being rolled together as one piece, an H-Beam is three pieces individually created and welded together. This allows each portion to be much stronger because you're using the milling equipment three times to reinforce material as opposed to using the equipment once to make one item. Overall, the H-Beam is much heavier than the I-beam and can take much more force and pressure.
INFORMATION
Stainless steel beams, also known as stainless steel I-beams or stainless steel H-beams, are extruded, hot rolled or laser-fused joists with H-shaped cross sections that are widely used as structural support in both commercial and industrial applications. Stainless steel beam has good resistance to rust and corrosion, thus making it an ideal choice for construction and structural applications. Stainless steel beam also has good toughness and high tensile strength for fabrication applications. Stainless steel beams are commonly used in structural support for food service, food processing and pharmaceutical applications due to their ability to be sterilized and sanitized.

GRADES
The common grades of stainless steel beams used are 304 and 316. 304 and 304L are the most widely used grades for stainless steel beams as they are resistant to corrosion under different industrial environment. Stainless steel grade 304 can be easily welded by all common techniques and has good formability, while also keeping its durability. Stainless steel grades 316 and 316L are often favoured in coastal and marine environments as they have proven to withstand strong resistance in acidic and hard water areas. Stainless steel grade 316 has greater tensile strength and less malleability than stainless steel grade 304, with the ability to provide reliable, durable performance in corrosive and sanitary applications.
