Descrizione di prodotto
254SMo Austenitic Stainless Steel Plate S31254
254SMo is an austenitic stainless steel specifically developed for use in halide-containing environments such as seawater. This steel demonstrates superior performance particularly in halide-containing acids and features excellent resistance to uniform corrosion. With carbon content below 0.02%, it is classified as pure austenitic stainless steel, and when carbon content is below 0.01%, it qualifies as super austenitic stainless steel.
Key Features of 254SMo Stainless Steel
254SMo represents a class of super stainless steel characterized by high nickel, chromium, and molybdenum content. The 6% molybdenum content provides exceptional local corrosion resistance, including excellent resistance to pitting corrosion (PI ≥ 40) and stress corrosion in demanding conditions such as seawater, aeration, gap environments, and low-speed scouring. This makes it a viable alternative to nickel-based alloys and titanium alloys.
The steel exhibits superior high-temperature resistance and corrosion resistance compared to standard 304 stainless steel. Its stable austenitic metallurgical structure ensures reliable performance across various applications.
Extensive field testing confirms 254SMo's high crevice corrosion resistance in seawater, even at elevated temperatures—a property shared by only a few stainless steel types. In acidic solutions and oxidizing halide solutions used in paper bleaching, 254SMo demonstrates corrosion resistance comparable to the most resistant nickel-based alloys and titanium.
The high nitrogen content provides enhanced mechanical strength compared to other austenitic stainless steels, while maintaining high ductility, impact strength, and excellent weldability. The high molybdenum content may result in a slightly rougher surface after pickling due to increased oxidation during annealing, but this does not compromise corrosion resistance.
