Material Description
EN 1.8550 steel is an alloy steel formulated for primary forming into wrought products, with cited properties appropriate for the quenched and tempered condition. 1.8550 is the EN numeric designation, while 34CrAlNi7-10 is the EN chemical designation.
This material features a moderately low melting temperature among EN wrought alloy steels, along with moderately high electrical conductivity and moderately low thermal conductivity.
EN 1.8550 is engineered for elevated temperature applications requiring high sliding properties, corrosion resistance, temperature resistance, abrasion resistance, and fatigue resistance. This nickel and aluminum-enhanced steel is widely used in energy, machinery, and automotive industries for large cross-section elements in heat-treated conditions.
Typical applications include screws, rods, cylinders, pistons, gears, extruders, and rings where welding is not required.
Heat Treatment Process
- Softening annealing: 650-700°C
- Hardening: 870-930°C for minimum 30 minutes with water or oil cooling
- Tempering: 580-700°C for minimum 700 hours
- Nitriding: 480-570°C
