UNS S31635 (316Ti) is a titanium-stabilized version of 316 molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel. The 316 alloys offer superior resistance to general corrosion and pitting/crevice corrosion compared to conventional chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels like 304. They also provide higher creep, stress-rupture, and tensile strength at elevated temperatures.
Titanium additions stabilize the structure against chromium carbide precipitation, which significantly reduces susceptibility to sensitization. This allows the alloy to be used for extended periods at elevated temperatures without compromising corrosion resistance. 316Ti has equivalent corrosion resistance to sensitization as the low carbon version 316L.
