Material Characteristics

Grade 904L stainless steel is a non-stabilized austenitic stainless steel with low carbon content. This high alloy stainless steel contains copper to improve resistance to strong reducing acids like sulphuric acid. The material offers excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking and crevice corrosion, is non-magnetic, and provides superior formability, toughness, and weldability.

Fabrication & Processing

Grade 904L stainless steels are high purity materials with low sulphur content that can be machined using standard methods. These grades can be readily bent to small radii under cold conditions. While subsequent annealing is not typically required, it should be performed when fabrication occurs under severe stress corrosion cracking conditions.
