UNS S31653 Type 316LN Stainless Steel
UNS S31653 Type 316LN is a low-carbon, nitrogen-enhanced version of Type 316 molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel. This alloy offers superior resistance to general corrosion and pitting/crevice corrosion compared to conventional chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels like Type 304. It also provides higher creep, stress-rupture, and tensile strength at elevated temperatures, with nitrogen content adding additional resistance to sensitization.
316LN vs 316L Stainless Steel Comparison
The nitrogen content in Type 316LN stainless steel provides solid solution hardening, resulting in higher minimum specified yield strength compared to Type 316L stainless steel. Both alloys maintain excellent resistance to general corrosion and pitting/crevice corrosion.
