Performance Characteristics
Corrosion Resistance
Excellent stress corrosion cracking resistance with good general corrosion resistance. Pitting and crevice corrosion resistance comparable to grade 304. Maximized corrosion resistance in polished or buffed condition.
Heat Resistance
Resists oxidation up to 870°C intermittently and 815°C continuously. May become brittle when heated for extended periods in 400-600°C range, remedied by annealing.
Heat Treatment
Solution annealing at 815-845°C followed by slow furnace cooling to 600°C and rapid air cooling. Cannot be hardened by thermal treatment.
Welding & Machining
Requires pre-heating at 150-200°C for welding. Better machinability than austenitic steels like 304. Grade 430F offers enhanced machining capabilities.
