Technical Characteristics
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent resistance to chloride environments, marine atmospheres, and various acids including acetic, formic, phosphoric, and tartaric acids. Suitable for sulfuric acid environments below 5% concentration up to 150°F (60°C).
Heat Treatment: Annealing at 1900-2100°F (1038-1149°C) with rapid quenching.
Cold Working: Excellent ductility in annealed condition for roll forming, deep drawing, and bending. Lower work hardening rate than Type 304 due to higher nickel content.
Weldability: Weldable using common fusion and resistance techniques. Type 316L eliminates harmful carbide precipitation due to welding. Recommended filler metals: AWS E/ER 316L and 16-8-2.
