Product Description
S31254/1.4547 Super Austenitic Stainless Steel Plate for Chemical Industry
Alloy 254 SMO is a premium molybdenum and nitrogen alloyed super austenitic stainless steel with low carbon content. This high-performance material demonstrates outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and corrosion fatigue. With strength nearly twice that of 300 series stainless steel, Alloy 254 SMO offers exceptional mechanical properties combined with high ductility and impact strength.
Key Features
  • Superior resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion
  • Excellent stress corrosion cracking resistance
  • High strength - approximately double 300 series stainless steel
  • Outstanding performance in chloride environments
  • High ductility and impact strength
  • Low carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation risk
Applications
Due to its high molybdenum and nickel content, Alloy 254 SMO is ideal for demanding chloride environments including:
  • Petroleum production equipment
  • Saltwater handling systems
  • Food and chemical processing equipment
  • Pulp mill bleach systems
  • Flue gas desulphurization scrubbers
  • Tall oil distillation columns
  • Offshore oil & gas production equipment
  • Desalination equipment
Material Standards
Standard Designation
ASTM/ASME UNS S31254
EURONORM FeMi35Cr20Cu4Mo2
DIN 2.4660
Corrosion Resistance Properties
  • Excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion due to high chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content
  • Minimal risk of carbide precipitation during heating due to very low carbon content
  • Superior performance in chloride-containing waters, making it suitable for prolonged seawater exposure without crevice corrosion
