Product Description
444 Stainless Steel Alloy 444 Stainless Steel Sheet
SUS444 stainless steel sheet, also known as AISI 444 or EN 1.4521, is a dual-stabilized ferritic stainless steel containing 2% molybdenum. This grade offers excellent corrosion resistance comparable to austenitic grades 4401/4404, with higher strength values and improved surface properties.
Grade Specifications
EN 1.4521 / AISI 444 is equivalent to European code 1.4521 and American standard marking ASTM 444. The molybdenum alloying and 18% chromium content provide exceptional corrosion properties, while dual stabilization with titanium and niobium ensures a fully stabilized microstructure with elongation to fracture values up to 30%.
Applications
  • Food processing equipment
  • Brewery and wine making equipment
  • Hot-water tanks and heat exchangers
  • Heat-exchanger tubing
  • Automotive components
  • Solar water heaters
  • Drinking water applications (approved by German DVGW and Swiss SVGW authorities)
Corrosion Resistance
Grade 1.4521 offers molybdenum-alloyed ferritic steel with localized corrosion resistance close to grade 1.4404/AISI 316 austenitic stainless steel. The nickel-free ferritic structure provides excellent resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking.
Formability
1.4521 can be readily cold-formed by all standard processes and is particularly suitable for deep drawing, with deep drawability comparable to deep drawing quality carbon steels. The lower work hardening rate makes it easily cold formed and machined.
Welding
With low C and N contents and titanium/niobium stabilization, this ferritic steel offers better weldability than many ferritic steels. Heat input must be minimized to prevent grain growth in the HAZ, with austenitic fillers typically used.
