UNS S20910 (XM-19) Stainless Steel Information
Nitronic 50® stainless steel, also known as UNS S20910 and XM-19, is an austenitic stainless steel offering superior strength and corrosion resistance compared to Stainless Steels 316, 316/316L, 317, and 317/317L. XM-19 provides twice the yield strength at room temperature while maintaining excellent mechanical properties at both elevated and sub-zero temperatures.
Key characteristics include non-magnetic properties even when severely cold worked and outstanding corrosion resistance in harsh environments such as marine applications.
Chemical composition includes 20-23% chromium, 11-13% nickel, 4-6% manganese, and 1.5-3% molybdenum, with balanced iron content and trace elements including carbon, silicon, sulfur, phosphorus, nitrogen, columbium (niobium), and vanadium.
Despite its superior strength, XM-19 can be fabricated using the same equipment and procedures as Stainless Steel 300 grades, with compatible cooling techniques.
Material Conditions
XM-19 is available in three distinct conditions:
- Annealed: Rolled material subjected to annealing process for improved workability
- As-Rolled: Material in its original rolled state without additional processing
- High Strength: Specially processed through lower temperature rolling and cold working for enhanced physical properties
