Overview
Key Features & Benefits
- High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Achieves tensile strengths up to 1380 MPa (200 ksi) after aging.
- Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Superior to standard martensitic stainless steels; comparable to 304 in many environments.
- Controlled Phase Transformation: Utilizes a “conditioning” heat treatment to transform unstable austenite into martensite, followed by precipitation hardening.
- Good Fabricability: In the annealed (Condition A) state, it exhibits ductility suitable for cold forming, machining, and welding.
- Dimensional Stability: Minimal distortion during heat treatment due to low carbon content and controlled microstructure.
- Custom Lengths Available: Cut-to-order service eliminates waste and reduces secondary processing costs.
Typical Applications
| Industry | Application Examples |
|---|---|
| Aerospace | Landing gear components, jet engine parts, fasteners, springs |

Why Choose Our 17-7PH Round Bars?
✅ Flexible Customization: Cut-to-length service reduces machining time and material waste.
✅ Global Compliance: Meets ASTM, AMS, and DIN standards; ideal for international projects.
✅ Technical Support: Our metallurgical team assists with heat treatment recommendations and application guidance.
✅ Fast Lead Times: Ready stock for common sizes; custom orders fulfilled within 2–4 weeks.
Heat Treatment Guidelines (Simplified)
- Solution Annealing (Condition A): Heat to 1040°C, hold, then air cool. This yields a ductile austenitic structure for forming.
- Conditioning Treatment: Heat to 955°C, hold, then rapidly cool to -73°C (for RH950) or air cool (for TH1050). This promotes martensite formation.
- Aging: Precipitation hardening at 510–565°C for 1–4 hours, depending on desired strength/toughness balance.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
A: Yes, but only in the annealed (Condition A) state. Post-weld heat treatment is required to restore mechanical properties.
A: 17-7PH offers better ductility and fatigue resistance; 17-4PH achieves higher hardness faster but has lower toughness.
A: Yes—after martensitic transformation (post-conditioning), it becomes ferromagnetic.
A: Continuous use up to 315°C (600°F); short-term exposure up to 480°C (900°F).
