The 17-4PH stainless steel round bar stands as a premier choice in high-performance engineering, offering an exceptional balance of high tensile strength, outstanding corrosion resistance, and precipitation-hardening capability. Also known by its UNS designation S17400, European standard 1.4542, Japanese grade SUS630, and Chinese equivalent 0Cr17Ni4Cu4Nb, this martensitic precipitation-hardening (PH) stainless steel is trusted across aerospace, defense, energy, medical, and precision industrial sectors.
Unlike conventional stainless steels, 17-4PH achieves its superior mechanical properties not through cold working—but through a controlled aging heat treatment that precipitates fine intermetallic phases (primarily ε-copper). This allows designers to machine components in a soft, solution-annealed state and then age them to final strength—minimizing distortion while maximizing performance.
