Material Description
EN 34CrNiMo6 Steel is an important alloy engineering steel grade per BS EN 10083-3:2006. This steel offers high strength, high toughness, and excellent hardenability. It features stability against overheating but has high white sensitivity and temper brittleness, resulting in poor weldability. Preheating at high temperatures before welding is required to eliminate stress after welding.

Heat Treatment
Quenched and Tempered (Q+T) process:
- Heat slowly to 850°C
- Soak at hardening temperature and quench in oil
- Temper immediately upon reaching room temperature
- Heat uniformly to suitable temperature
- Withdraw from furnace and cool in air
- Standard tempering temperature: 600°C (adjustable per requirements)
Additional Processing Information
Forging: Hot forming temperature: 1100-900°C
Machinability: Best performed in annealed or normalized and tempered condition using conventional methods
Welding: Fusion or resistance welding possible with preheat and post-heat procedures
Applications
EN DIN 34CrNiMo6 steel is used for tools requiring good plasticity and high strength. Typical applications include heavy machinery axles, turbine shaft blades, high-load transmission parts, fasteners, crankshafts, gears, and heavily loaded motor construction components.
